Pacers Fairfax surrounded by snow above left. Pacers Pentagon Row has ice on the sign!
I've lived in the Washington DC area all my life, and in my 33 years, I can't remember this much snow! I also don't remember a Super Bowl Sunday that had less buzz after this storm has stolen all the thunder. Poor Drew Brees and Peyton Manning, but I'm sure they'll be fine.
So, you probably will indulge in beer, wings, chips and dip. You probably have cabin fever from being stuck in your house for 2 days. And finally, you probably will be able to see more of the once in a lifetime storm if you get out and RUN!
Here are a few things to think about when running in the snow:
- Slow down. The snow is going to be slippery and harder to run in, so make sure you slow down and keep your footing sure.
- Run in the packed or slushy snow. It will keep you from running on ice and slipping around.
- Wear trail shoes or shoes with a more aggressive tread. Any trail shoe that we carry in the store will grip better than your regular training shoes.
- Don't run if you have injury issues. Running in the snow will work many different muscles and tendons. Your thighs and calf muscles will definitely get more work than usual. Don't run with tender achilles or other lower leg problems. Maybe hit the treadmill just this one time!
- Bundle up with technical apparel that will wick away the moisture. No cotton!!
See you out on the trails.
